Photonic integrated circuits use photons rather than electrons to transmit and process data across microchips. Because light generates virtually no heat through electrical resistance and travels at extreme speeds, optical computing holds immense potential for overcoming the thermal and bandwidth bottlenecks currently limiting hyperscale data centres.
