Punjab authorities have imposed Rs10.627 million in fines for overpricing essential commodities across the province over the past seven days, Secretary Food Safety and Consumer Protection Dr Kiran Khursheed said. Inspections identified 19,902 violations involving sales above officially fixed prices, while 2,168 locations were found without displayed price lists. Authorities conducted 18,774 inspections to monitor chicken prices and 12,829 checks for sugar prices. The crackdown also resulted in 56 arrests and the sealing of 19 locations. Officials said enforcement operations would continue to curb overpricing and ensure essential commodities are sold at government-notified rates.
